Jessica Alba Reveals Which Tattoos She Regrets Getting: 'I'm So Irritated That I Got It'

Jessica Alba has tattoo remorse.

The actress, 38, opened up about the ink she wishes she could erase, telling Refinery29 “I regret one of them… maybe two.”

Alba went on to explain that one of the tattoos is a bow on the middle of her lower back, which she calls “kind of a tramp stamp.”

The other is a cluster of flowers she got on her neck.

“I got it when I was, like, 17 and I’m so irritated that I got it,” Alba said of the neck tattoo to Refinery29.

“I got it lasered many times and it’s not coming out.”

Nonetheless, Alba doesn’t consider all of her tattoos a mistake.

The Honest Company founder recently got three tattoos in honor of her children — Honor Marie, Haven Garner and Hayes Alba — with husband Cash Warren.

The tattoos are of their zodiac signs’ constellations across her left arm.

“I really wanted to think about what would be meaningful over time, because when you get something you’re 17 and now you’re 38, you’re like, ‘Hmm, don’t know if that’s too meaningful,” Alba told Refinery29.

“But for that one, the kids are forever,” she added.

In addition to honoring her children with tattoos, Alba is investing in their mental health.

Last month, Alba opened up about taking 10-year-old Honor with her to therapy.

While speaking at the Her Conference in Hollywood, Alba said that she is hoping to “learn to be a better mother to her and communicate better with her” through therapy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Some people think, like in my family, you talk to a priest and that’s it,” Alba said. “I don’t really feel comfortable talking to him about my feelings.”

“I didn’t grow up in an environment where you talked about this stuff, and it was just like shut it down and keep it moving,” she continued. “So I find a lot of inspiration just in talking to my kids.”

This isn’t the first time Alba has gotten candid about her parenting.

“Things aren’t gonna always come easy in life and anything that’s worth having, you have to work for,” she told PEOPLE last September. “I wasn’t naturally really good at anything, so it always took a great deal of effort to accomplish anything for me.”

“It’s just a good life lesson for my kids,” she added.

Jessica Alba can’t get enough of her sweet son Hayes Alba.

On Tuesday, the actress, 38, shared a gallery of photos of her 18-month-old boy — who, along with daughters Haven Garner, 7½, and Honor Marie, 11, she shares with her husband, Cash Warren.

“This kid crushes me,” Alba wrote, adding a trio of heart emojis.

In the pictures, Alba captured Hayes in a series of adorable moments. A few shots showed Hayes running and playing outdoors. Another had Hayes relaxing on a tropical beach.

Perhaps the cutest was Hayes wearing a blue chef’s hat, giving the camera major side-eye.

Alba’s dedication to her children has been apparent since she welcomed Honor in 2008. She regularly discusses instilling values of hard work in the trio, a parenting technique influenced by her own humble upbringing.

“If my kids complain when Cash and I go to work, I say, ‘Do you like your life? Because it’s not free. Your dad and I work hard so you can have everything you have. That’s why you take care of your stuff,’ ” Alba said in an interview with Parents magazine in November 2018.

” ‘And guess what? If you don’t work hard, your life won’t always be like this,’ ” added the Dark Angel alum. ” ‘You’ve got to figure out what you want to do. Go to school, do well, treat others well.’ I’m hardcore about that.”

Those lessons seem to have paid off regarding her daughters’ work ethic, too, as Hayes’ big sisters have taken to helping their parents out with baby duties since his arrival on Dec. 31, 2017.

“They’re at the age when they’re playing with American Girl dolls and it’s like a real-life American Girl doll. It’s kind of like the perfect age, age 7 and 10, to have a little baby around,” Alba told PEOPLE last September of Haven and Honor.

“They like to feed him. They like to play with him. They like to pick him up. They like to sing to him, give him a bath. They like to do all the things,” the mother of three added — but there’s one exception: “Diaper changing is probably the only thing they don’t like to do.”

Kylie Jenner, Kelsea Ballerini, Busy Phillips, and Whitney Port are just a few of the stylish stars who have been spotted wearing the brand’s workout clothes

Our favorite celebs aren’t just wearing the fitness pieces, they can’t stop raving about them either. Jessica Alba once posted a photo of the brand’s leggings in her Instagram story with the caption, “Spanx workout leggings are amaze balls.”

Meanwhile Girls actress Allison Williams was once quoted saying, “This is my gift to you: Spanx makes the more incredible exercise leggings. I wear them almost every day. They have a little control top, so they’re flattering. I’ll often stay in exercise clothes all day, which I know is a faux pas.”

With details like this, it’s easy to see why so many celebrities are such big fans. After three children, Jessica Alba is more confident about her body than ever before.

The actress and Honest Company co-founder, 38, posed for InStyle‘s upcoming 25th anniversary issue that honors many of its past cover stars, talking to the magazine about what has changed in her mindset since her first cover in June 2007. (Her latest was in July 2018.)

“Looking back, when I shot my first InStyle cover, I was insecure,” Alba says. “I felt like I needed to be someone I wasn’t in order to be accepted. I allowed other people’s ideas of who they thought I should be to define me.”

“Who am I now? I give zero f—s. I have three children. They’ve exploded my body, and I’m cool with it,” she adds, laughing. “And I know I’m smart. I don’t care what everybody else thinks. I’m good, girl. I’m good.”

As a mom to son Hayes Alba, 19 months, plus daughters Haven Garner, who turns 8 on Tuesday, and Honor Marie, 11, the star says her dedication to her company means her kids didn’t know she was an actress at first.

“I’ve actually met a surprising number of people over the years who know me only from Honest. Even my kids didn’t know I was in the entertainment industry because I took a step back from it once they could walk, talk and be in the world,” Alba tells InStyle.

“It wasn’t until recently that they were like, ‘Wait, why are you on a magazine cover? That’s awkward, Mom,’ ” says the L.A.’s Finest actress, continuing with a laugh, “And I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah, I do this other thing sometimes.’ ”

Alba’s second InStyle cover wouldn’t be for six years after her first. By then, she had married movie producer Cash Warren and they had welcomed their two daughters.

“For the first time in my life I was really embracing my womanhood,” recalls the Sin City star of that time period. “I was in my early 30s, and it had taken up until then for me to feel confident in my body.”

“I also stopped allowing myself to be objectified in the press through a male’s perspective. Screw that, man,” she continues. “It’s okay to be sexy. It’s okay to wear a short skirt or a loud print if I feel like it because I own it in my own way. I can flaunt what I want, cover what I want, and still feel good.”

“My son, Hayes, was just 7 months old when I shot my most recent InStyle cover, last July , and if I had been younger, I probably would have been obsessed with dieting and exercising,” Alba says, “but instead I thought, ‘This is where I’m at. This is my life. And this is my body.’ “

Jessica Alba Has a Genius Application Hack for Her Honest Liquid Lipstick

Jessica Alba‘s new Honest liquid lipstick does double duty. That’s because the actress, entrepreneur and mom of three is always creating products with busy women in mind.

“I like to wear it like a stain and then put a balm over it,” Alba told PEOPLE of incorporating the lipstick into her daily makeup routine. “I like to move it around, and then I just kind of layer it on if I want more pay off versus less.”

She adds: “And then I always use a little bit on my cheeks to tie in the color.”

Engineered with a clean formula that Honest is known for, the Honest liquid lip range comes in seven shades retailing for $12.99 each.

“Wearing a liquid lip is also an easy way to feel like you are put together and have a makeup look on,” Alba shares. “We know that most people are time-starved whether you are a working woman or not, whether you are a parent or not — it shouldn’t take two hours to get ready. We are on the go and we have many things to do and we’ve got places to go and people to see. And if you can get your face on in the shortest amount of time possible, we want to help you be able to do that. You can trust us that it’s safe.”

Below, the beauty boss shares some more insight on the hot new launch.

What inspired you to create liquid lipstick?
We don’t pay attention to trends when we formulate. It’s more of like, “How can we deliver staples that are really challenging to make in color using clean formulas?” And that’s kind of what we’re about. Our lineup is always curated. I want it to be essential things. So now we’re still building up even what the baseline of essentials are. But having a long-wear lip-color for me feels like an essential because whether you’re going to wear it on its own as a matte with full coverage or you want to wear it as a base and then put something that’s a little bit more glossy on top. It’s nice to be able to have that flexibility with a product like this.

What sets your formula apart from the others on the market?
Everything’s obviously cruelty free. We don’t quality test on animals and then whenever we can, we try to make a Vegan formula. So our lip balms in particular, there’s nothing like it on the market. It is clean and it also doesn’t use any animal byproducts.

How did you pick these shades?
We always want to create a nice range that looks good on different types of skin tones. That’s just something I’m always cognizant of. My family alone has a very diverse mix of skin tones. I like to test a lot of these colors on my own family members. On set of my latest show , I tried it on any actor that walked by. I tried them on my co-star Gab . We didn’t start with this very kind of like snowy white Caucasian skin tone and then move from there. We started actually in the middle and then we branched out from there. That’s kind of how we always try to formulate our colors.

Which color is your fave?
I love them all! I’m wearing the Fearless today. (Shop Alba’s favorite shade exclusively at Honest.com/Beauty).

Can you kiss in a liquid lip?
I’d pick one of the more nude shades for date night. The formula isn’t too drying, which was important. If they want the kiss, they’ll get the kiss.

Our in-house chemist, Mallory, is breaking down the anatomy of our clean Liquid Lipstick. Made with CleanPower Technology™, nourishing ingredients and so much more. Alllllll right here 👇 . +COCONUT ALKANES 🥥 . Volatile Emollient = quick drying ‘oil-like’ ingredient. The volatile emollient makes it liquid enough to apply and is the base ingredients for all liquid lip formulas. Traditional formulas use ISODODECANE, a petroleum derived emollient that also dries out the lips. We use COCONUT ALKANES, a naturally derived emollient that also has some nourishing properties. . +PINE ROSIN . Film Former = ingredient that traps the pigments and adheres them to the skin. Traditional liquid lip formulas use SYNTHETIC POLYMERS which are often dry and brittle (no thank you!). Our liquid lip uses HYDROGENATED METHYL ABIETATE, a film former derived from pine rosin that is super flexible. Hard to pronounce, easy on the lips and derived from pine tree rosin! . +🥑💧 . How do you want to continue to see Honest Beauty Grow?
I sort of think of what are the things that I need the most payoff in and especially when I think of my long days on sets just because that’s just where I’ve spent most of my life. So for me it was like a killer mascara, a great liquid line. Having a long wear lip is important. That gives you actual pigment and payoff and shadows that actually show up and don’t just look like they’re different dirt colors. Because I felt like all the naturals are just like, “Ah, here’s some many shades of dirt.” And it was important for me that you actually get like, you know, some nice pigments and nice payoff in the shadow. So when the mascara, the shadows, the liquid line, and the long wear lip.

Youtuber Lilly Singh Apologizes for 'Disrespectful' Turban Joke She Made at Jessica Alba's Home

Lilly Singh is taking responsibility for her mistakes.

On Friday, the popular YouTube vlogger apologized on Twitter for a discriminatory comment she made about turbans during a previous episode of her show, A Little Late With Lilly, calling her remarks “disrespectful and problematic.”

During a recent visit to Jessica Alba‘s home, Singh, 31, met Alba’s two young daughters — Honor, 11, and Haven, 8 — who were both wearing twisted towels on their heads.

“They’re really good at being cool, especially with people that they geek out over like you,” Alba, 38, told Singh during the show. “They’re trying to be cool about it. I was like, ‘Lilly’s downstairs,’ and they’re like, ‘Lilly’s downstairs?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, come say hi.’ They wear the towels, the turbo twists, so they like look super not cool in the turbo twists but it dries their hair really quickly, so it’s very practical. I think they definitely had the turbi twists on when they said hi.”

“They look like my Punjabi friends,” Singh responded. “It’s fine.”

Her comments faced backlash from viewers, leading Singh to reflect and ultimately apologize.

“Hey friends, my timing is very poor,” she wrote. “I just made a post about dealing with hate online because I saw a tweet from someone making fun of my outfit and I was completely oblivious to a larger issue happening.”

“In a recent episode of my show, I stupidly made a comparison about turbans that I’d like to apologize for,” she said. “My guest was explaining how her kids were embarrassed I saw them with towels twisted on their heads and I said ‘don’t worry, it’s like my Punjabi friends.’ In the moment, my thought process was ‘don’t be embarrassed! I think that’s dope.’ But in hindsight I recognize that was a disrespectful and problematic joke to make that has a lot of painful history behind it. And I’m very sorry.”

She continued, “This was the first episode of the show I ever taped and I was very nervous, doing improv that wasn’t well thought out. I’m incredibly sorry to those I hurt with that comparison. And I want to make it clear that I’m incredibly grateful to the people who took the time to bring this to my attention and educate me on the matter; I appreciate that you approached me with love and patience. I don’t wear a turban and I haven’t lived that experience and so I really value people giving perspective. I’m grateful that this was a teachable moment instead of another opportunity to divide and attack.”

Singh concluded, “This is all new to me. I’m still learning and growing. I know the line for comedy is subjective so I can only do what I feel is right. And in this case, taking full ownership and apologizing feels right. No ands, ifs or buts. It was wrong. I hope you continue to make space for me to make mistakes, and improve from them. Aside from these words, I’ve also taken the action to ensure my stupid joke is removed from the episode and online clips. Thank you and here’s to a life of growth and improvement.”

In addition, she shared a Funny or Die video titled “Let’s Talk About Turbans (Gasp!)” in a follow-up tweet. “Also, education is love so I’d like to shine light on this great video discussing the turban. Thank you again,” she wrote.

Singh, who is also an actress and played the role of Raven in HBO’s adaption of Fahrenheit 451, has always been transparent with her 14.5 million subscribers, opening up about her personal life and past struggles.

In November, she announced would be taking a break from making videos to focus on her mental health. The social media star explained that her decision had nothing to do with her fans or YouTube, but rather was something she needed for herself.

“I’ll be real with y’all. I am mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausted,” she said. “I’ve been doing YouTube consistently for eight years … and for a lot of those years, I’ve been doing it twice a week, plus the daily blogs.”

“It’s been a lot,” she admitted. “I’ve enjoyed it, I love it, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it has been a lot.”

If you’ve ever been to an airport, chances are you’ve spotted an Away suitcase. But you might not recognize the iconic hard-shell luggage anymore because it just got a major makeover.

The celeb-loved luggage brand just launched its first-ever line of soft-sided luggage that is designed to expand — so if you’re an overpacker, this is a game-changer. Each suitcase from The Expandables collection has been upgraded with a water-proof, woven nylon shell that provides the same durability of the original polycarbonate ones while allowing more flexibility, which is key with its new zipper feature. Travelers can now expand their suitcases by 1.75-inches by unzipping the exterior seam to get more space for souvenirs or to bring extra outfit options. Even cooler is the design’s nylon front pocket that provides easy access to the items you may need in transit.

The new line still has Away’s signature chic aesthetic and well-thought-out technical detailing, which includes 360-degree spinning wheels, a TSA-approved combination lock, a removable laundry bag, and an interior compression system. Since launching in 2016 and disrupting the luggage industry, Away has racked up an impressive list of celeb fans, including Mandy Moore, Jessica Alba, Karlie Kloss, Rashida Jones, and more, who are more often than not spotted toting around the brand’s suitcase known as The Carry-On, which fits perfectly in the overhead bin on most airlines.

The Expandables collection is available in all four Away suitcase sizes, including the star-loved Carry-On size, and comes in four colorways — black, gray, navy, and green. The prices vary by size, ranging from as low as $275 for The Carry-On to $375 for The Large suitcase. If you’ve been looking to upgrade your luggage, now’s the perfect time to do it — especially if you’re planning to travel for the holidays and bring home gifts. Rebecca Minkoff Swaps Business 'War Stories' with Jessica Alba: 'I Really Admire Her Career'

When it comes to running her fashion label, designer and entrepreneur Rebecca Minkoff turns to peers she admires for business advice — including close friend Jessica Alba — in times of struggle.

“Jessica Alba is someone that I can swap war stories with. As great as you think her life is, I’ll see her and she’s like, ‘F—k, it’s hard.’ I really admire her career that she’s built. It’s been from a really authentic place,” Minkoff tells PEOPLE at the 5th annual Beaches Resorts Social Media on the Sand conference in Turks & Caicos.

The designer turns to other inspiring women in the industry, too. “The founder of Birchbox, Katia Beauchamp, is a good friend and we can get really honest with each other in times of crisis or hard business,” Minkoff says.

Now, after nearly 15 years of shaking up the fashion world with her game-changing approach (like her “See Now, Buy Now” fashion show model), Minkoff is using her platform to help other aspiring entrepreneurs. In addition to paying it forward by sharing wisdom at female-focused conferences like Social Media on the Sand, the star created the Female Founder Collective, an organization that raises awareness of women-owned businesses and provides them with more opportunities and tools for success.

“It’s a community of over 6,000 women-owned businesses, and the seal is on over 2.5 million products to date,” she says. “We’re building a platform where the women can engage, share resources, tips and tricks with others going through the same thing.”

Read on for more on how Minkoff balances running a global brand, raising three young children and pushing for change in the fashion industry.

This is your second year in a row speaking at Social Media on the Sand. What do you get out of this conference?

I met a lot of women last year and was really inspired by their careers. You get to see what’s happening all over the United States which is really interesting. And then, the resort is amazing. I brought my kids  and they’re really happy. This literally made a great vacation, too.

How has social media impacted the growth of your namesake label?

We were probably one of the first fashion brands to adopt social media. We had interventions 15 years ago with every major department store you can think of saying, “What are you doing talking to your customer being in social? This is beneath you. A designer should be in their ivory tower.” We had to get through those conversations, which was interesting. But we’re here because of social. It’s been natural as I’ve grown up with it. We’re doubling down on it now too, and video is something you will see a lot more of from us.

On the flip side, social media can be addicting. Do you take digital detoxes?

I realized something was wrong when a few months ago I was walking through SoHo in N.Y.C. and my phone died. I looked up and was like, “This is a beautiful part of town.” I was just noticing how gorgeous SoHo is, where I had also lived for seven years. I was like, “This is a problem.” I try to keep my phone in my bag while I’m walking down the street. My kids also hate me taking pictures of them and I think it’s because maybe it’s the opposite effect starting to happen. They’re like, “Get that thing out of my face. Be here with me in the moment.”

Do you experience mom guilt when you’re working?

All the time. It’s hardwired in our uteruses to feel that way and it’s a work in progress.

Has being a mom changed your approach to business?

I definitely am more empathetic towards working moms and feel more for what they’re going through, like when they return to work or if they have stuff at home. I think I just have more compassion.

What was one of the biggest business risks you’ve taken that paid off?

Transitioning to the See Now, Buy Now model. So bucking the industry when people poo-pooed the concept. I think staying strong with that and seeing the results has been good.

What advice would you give your younger self?

It’s advice that I struggle with because I don’t know if I would be where I am if I took that advice. But slow down a little bit. Maybe take a few more breathers and give yourself more rope. I was always like, “I have to do this now.” When I look back at my 20s and I see 20-year-olds now with balanced lives, I realize I didn’t have that. I was working all the time. I could have had a little bit more fun.

The fashion industry has evolved so much since you launched your label in 2005. What do you hope for the future of fashion?

I’d like the conversation around women and equality to be gone by the time my daughter enters the workforce. I don’t want that to be even a question or a struggle. And I hope people look back at what me and my brother have done and be like, “They were pioneers in ushering in technology within fashion, and using social to transform their company.”

We love seeing women supporting other women, which is one of the many reasons we’re mildly obsessing over Jessica Alba’s recent post on Instagram. The Hollywood sweetheart shared a #WCW carousel of pictures with her longtime friend and fashion designer, Rebecca Minkoff. Alba captioned her adorably sweet post saying, “she is an incredible designer, a badass business woman, founder of two businesses, her latest- @thefemalefoundercollective, a network of businesses led by women, supporting women. I’m honored to be friends with Becky.”

Besides her heartwarming words, Alba also wrote, “P.S. This @rebeccaminkoff jacket and bag are my current fall obsessions.” After such a rave review, we couldn’t help ourselves and found her exact trench coat — at one of our all-time favorite retailers, Nordstrom!

Inside Jessica Alba's Baby2Baby Beauty Prep — from Her Chic Lob to the Powder That Lasts for Hours!

Jessica Alba turned the red carpet into a high-fashion runway Saturday night when she attended the Baby2Baby Gala presented by Paul Mitchell in a look so stylish that we’re still talking about it 48 hours later. So we reached out to the actress, entrepreneur and beauty influencer (if you’re not an Honest Beauty hypebeast yet, you will be after reading this story) for the breakdown on her head-to-toe look, which has now been hearted across the Internet as holiday party inspiration.

“I wanted to go in a cool, fresh direction so this dress by Ralph & Russo is perfect,” Alba tells PEOPLE of the romantic design, which featured a dazzling splattering of crystals, pearls, sequins and ostrich feather trim. She paired the look with a matching pearl-embellished headband, a feather bag and silver heels both by Jimmy Choo, Anita Ko earrings and added some sparkle to her nails via Peacci’s sequin Snow Queen polish. Alba adds: “It’s playful yet chic which is what I was going for.”

As for her red-carpet-getting-ready rituals, the mogul usually kicks things off by soothing her under eyes with Comfort Zone Sublime Skin Eye Patches and eating “lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.”

“If I have time, I’ll get a massage to unwind and relax,” she shares. “It’s important to listen to dope music while getting ready to set the tone for the night.”

To balance the bling on Alba’s dress, makeup artist Monika Blunder created a “simple and chic” look on Alba with a “focus on flawless skin.”

“She brought a lot of luminosity to my skin for a very low-key ‘dipped in gold’ look, accented with a touch of black eyeliner, a wash of gold on my eyes using Kosas 10 Second Eyeshadow in Supreme and several coats of Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Primer to really lengthen my lashes and open my eyes up.”

Blunder completed Alba’s look with a soft nude pout using Honest Beauty Tinted Lip Balm in Lychee Fruit topped with Honest Beauty Liquid Lipstick in BFF.

But the hero product of Saturday night’s makeup moment was Honest Beauty’s Invisible Blurring Powder.

“I wear more powder than I normally would to minimize shine,” Alba says. “I love the Honest Beauty powder because it’s translucent and super fine so it blends right into my skin and layers seamlessly over any look that I’m wearing that day.”

Alba also had some fun with her hair, working with stylist Jesus Guerrero to create the look of a chic lob (using a Paul Mitchell flat iron to get her hair extra sleek) as a flashback to her short hair days.

“A few years ago I was rocking a lob and my hairstylist Jesus was inspired by my previous looks,” she shares. “He wanted to bring back my shorter hair and accessorized it with chic headband that matched my dress to tie everything together.”

Jesus

Once glam is done, Alba finishes of all her red carpet looks by focusing on her feet.

“I put double-sided tape onto the soles of my feet so that I don’t slip out and this keeps my feet from sliding out of my shoes,” she shares. “Lastly, I slather on Lord Jones High CBD Formula Body Lotion focusing on my feet and knees when I know I’m going to be in heels all night.”

And when she finally hits the carpet, the mom of three works on keeping her makeup look in place.

“I’m usually just focused on trying to get through it without tearing up,” she says of posing for photographers. “I have sensitive eyes so all of the flashes going off make my eyes water.”

Still on cloud nine from such an incredible night! 4.7 million dollars raised at the 2019 Baby2Baby Gala Presented by @PaulMitchell! A huge thank you to our sponsors Paul Mitchell, @prada, @nordstrom, @volvocars and @kayneandersonfoundation for making this night possible and supporting the children we serve in Los Angeles and across the country.

But for Alba and the other A-listers at the Baby2Baby Gala, going glam was all in the name of giving back. Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. This year’s event raised $4.7 million dollars for the cause.

“One of the biggest needs for babies living in poverty are diapers,” Alba explains. “They are not covered by food stamps because they are classified as a ‘luxury item.’ Families shouldn’t have to choose between diapers and providing food and other basic necessities their family.”

Baby2Baby teams with a national network of partners (like Alba’s The Honest Company) to get diapers and other basic supplies into the hands of families all over the country.

Want to help? Alba encourages people to donate any of the items in need, host a drive or simply make a contribution here.

“There are so many different ways to make an impact,” she says.

Celebrity Trainer Nichelle Hines Gives Her Top 6 Tips for Staying on Track This Holiday Season

With the holiday season officially kicking off on Thursday, celebrity trainer Nichelle Hines knows many will be scrambling to enjoy the festivities while also hoping to stay on track with their exercise regimen.

That’s why Hines, who works as the Chief Ride Officer at Cycle House in Los Angeles — a go-to spot for many celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, and Madonna — is offering some helpful hints to help find the balance between food and fitness and avoid “mindless eating.”

“There are ways to make this holiday season active and not fall into the pitfalls and the traps of what tends to happen to most of us during that time,” she tells PEOPLE.

Here are five of Hines’ best tips ahead of Thanksgiving to ensure that people can have their cake — or turkey — and eat it too!

1. Avoid drinking alcohol before your meal

The holidays are a popular time to indulge in alcoholic beverages, but according to Hines, refraining from drinking them before the big meal may help in the long run.

“Drinking leads to overeating so a good tip to keep you where you want to be is try not to drink before the meal,” she tells PEOPLE. “Once you’re a little tipsy, you kinda lose your inhibitions and then you get into that .”

For those really looking forward to some booze, Hines suggests an alternative plan.

“Hold off on the alcohol until the meal or save it for after you’ve eaten,” she says. “And if you are drinking during the meal, have something that you can sip, like red wine. Things that you can’t gulp.”

2. Eat a healthy breakfast and/or lunch beforehand

Thinking about not eating at all before Thanksgiving so you can indulge during the main meal? Think again, Hines says.

“One thing a lot of people tend to do is they don’t eat the whole day in the anticipation of the meal,” she explains. “The problem with that is then, you’re starving and we all know, it’s like going to the grocery store hungry.”

“If you’re waiting until 3, 4, 5 o’clock, you haven’t eaten all day, that’s another way you sort of dive-bomb into the starchy-fatty carbs,” she adds.

To avoid this problem, Hines suggests eating a healthy breakfast filled with proteins, complex carbohydrates, and some fats.

3. Maintain a regular exercise and healthy eating routine

One of the best ways to ensure that you’re not going completely off-track with your health, Hines says, is by practicing a fitness routine — and following it, even on the holiday itself.

“If you can — if you’re not cooking everything — work out before you go,” she explains. “Try to earn those calories back.”

Hines also suggests challenging yourself to work out every day in the weeks leading up to the holidays and making healthy daily choices, such as skipping dessert, limiting alcohol intake, and choosing healthier options for lunch.

“If you’re cutting your calories in a helpful way , that meal doesn’t destroy you,” she says, before pointing out, “One meal is not going to change your life.”

“If you really are paying attention to your health and the one meal you’re indulging in is Thanksgiving, then it’s no problem,” she adds. “The question you have to ask yourself are you indulging leading up to the holidays?”

“It’s the holidays. Of course, you’re gonna have something, but if you can hold off until the meal, it will help you make a better decision,” Hines explains.

4. Get creative with your circumstances

Another way to stay on track is by getting the family involved and incorporating exercises even when you’re traveling.

“Workout at home, play games — there’s things you can do with your family that are really fun,” Hines says, noting that her family often plays a card game where each suit in the deck represents an easy exercise that everyone must complete.

“This is really fun, you can modify the exercise,” she explains. “It feels like a game, and not only are you connecting without your telephones and TVs, but it’s fun and it’s active. It promotes health and encourages the family to get into it together.”

“If there’s a way for you to create a good time for you and your family, I think that’s the best thing you can do,” she adds. “It’s all about unity and having a good time together.”

For those traveling, Hines suggests getting out of the car at rest stops, stretching out or taking walks on planes, and drinking lots of water while on flights.

“If you drink water, not only does it combat fatigue but it helps combat jet lag. It’s easier to adjust, you sleep better when you arrive where you’re going,” the celebrity trainer explains. “Water on an airplane is your absolute and total best friend.”

5. Have a plan

When it comes to your Thanksgiving or Christmas meal, Hines swears by two strategies: eating healthier options first and taking it slow.

“Focus your first place on proteins and healthy carbohydrates. It’s gonna make it more difficult for you to get those things that are worse for you,” she suggests. “If you focus on your protein and your vegetable-based carbs, you’re really gonna see a big difference and you’ll fill up faster.”

“And eat slow, there’s no rush,” Hines adds. “It takes twenty minutes for the brain to receive cues from your stomach that you’re full… I’m not saying don’t indulge, but how much are you going to indulge in?”

6. Don’t take yourself too seriously

For those who may fall off track or not maintain their goals during the holidays, Hines encourages self-love and forgiveness.

“If you mess up, the number one thing you can do is get back on the horse,” she says. “It’s one meal, it’s one day. If you focus on making sure it’s just that, then you will be able to survive it.”

“We say strength is in the struggle at Cycle House,” Hines adds. “If you end up in a struggle, you have no idea what you’re capable of. And as long as you know you’re rocking who you really are and know that this meal, this moment, doesn’t define you, that’s how you’re going to make a difference in your life.”

By now you’re probably aware that most of Hollywood loves to wear Spanx shapewear both on and off the red carpet, but did you know they’re equally obsessed with the brand’s stylish activewear line as well? Kylie Jenner, Kelsea Ballerini, Busy Phillips, and Whitney Port are just a few of the stylish stars who have been spotted wearing the brand’s workout clothes. And luckily, you don’t need a celebrity-sized budget to buy them — not when they’re full-price, and especially not today.

While most styles typically go for less than $100 apiece, the entire Spanx activewear line is currently cheaper than ever thanks to an epic Cyber Monday sale where everything is marked down by 20 percent. The deals are only good until 11:59 p.m. ET, so you’ll have to act fast if you want to give your workout an A-list upgrade for a fraction of the price.

Along with being super comfortable, the activewear pieces are incredibly flattering, too, thanks to the brand’s signature shapewear technology that’s infused into each design.

By the way, our favorite celebs aren’t just wearing Spanx fitness pieces — they can’t stop raving about them, either. Jessica Alba once posted a photo of the brand’s leggings in her Instagram story with the caption, “Spanx workout leggings are amaze balls.”

With details like this, it’s easy to see why so many celebrities are such big fans. Jessica Alba is looking forward to a “cozy” Christmas with her husband and kids.

On Sunday, Alba, 38, and her husband Cash Warren and their daughters Honor, 10, Haven, 7, and 11-month-old son Hayes made their red carpet debut as a family of five at the Baby2Baby Holiday Party (presented by FRAME and UBER), where the L.A.’s Finest star opened up to reporters about her upcoming holiday plans.

“We usually travel,” Alba said. “This year, we’re going to stay here and be cozy.”

The star revealed her family usually vacations with Baby2Baby co-president Kelly Sawyer and “we all share a house.”

“This year, we’re going to stay here in one house for three days and have a staycation,” Alba added.

In addition to looking forward to her own holiday festivities, Alba is happy to spread the Christmas cheer with others.

Alba, one of Baby2Baby’s board members and longtime supporters, explained that the holiday party allows her to “give people a Christmas they wouldn’t otherwise be able to have.”

“We feel really fortunate,” Alba continued. “Just to be able to give a great experience. It’s also because the families get to come together. We get to connect on a human level.”

The charity provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities.

Alba has long been a believer in paying it forward.

In November the star reflected on her humble upbringing and how the lessons she learned as a child have influenced how she parents.

“But I still found a way to be successful in a business that wasn’t open-armed to a Mexican girl,” she added. “So, my whole life I’ve always just wanted to pay it forward.”

Amid her and Warren’s busy schedules, the couple make sure their three kids know the value of hard work. “If my kids complain when Cash and I go to work, I say, ‘Do you like your life? Because it’s not free. Your dad and I work hard so you can have everything you have. That’s why you take care of your stuff,’” Alba explained to Parents.
